Our Journey in the UK Cleaning Industry
Back in 1988, Spotless began from humble beginnings. Our Founder Roger Green was a university student determined to start his own cleaning business. He went door to door among businesses in Edinburgh offering his cleaning services. Thankfully many of them accepted and allowed the starting foundations for what we have become today. We ensured over the years that while we invested in the latest products and technology, we invested in our people. Our cleaning operatives stay with us for an average of 3.8 years in an industry where high turnover is the norm. From one university student in 1988, we are now a full team of over 1,600 colleagues that operate across the UK, We provide a full range of cleaning services for blue chip companies, retail outlets, industrial leaders, and premier commercial premises.
The Drive for Eco-Friendly Cleaning
Over the past 36 years, the industry has started moving away from harsh cleaning chemicals and environmentally damaging practices. According to Everybot, the demand for more environmentally friendly cleaning products started back in the 1990s. With the increasing worry around climate change and the environment, we ensure we offer best practices in eco-friendly cleaning. The Rise of Robotics and Technology in Cleaning
Over the past 36 years, it has been amazing for us to see how advancements in technology have impacted the cleaning industry. We have always been at the forefront of investing in the latest technology to ensure our clients have the best service. For example, we invested in Spacevac units to ensure we could provide quality high-level cleaning to commercial clients. Robotics is also being developed in the cleaning sector, though this is currently more in the domestic space. For example, the Roomba vacuum robot was launched in 2002 for people to use in their homes. Now over 40 million home robots have been used worldwide. The Hobot, a window cleaning robot, has seen an increasing rise in cleaning companies investing in them. So, there may be more growth in robotics being used by professional cleaning companies.
Spotless and the Future of the Cleaning Industry
According to the British Cleaning Council, the cleaning, hygiene, and waste industry continues to be one of the largest business sectors. Post-pandemic, they believe that the commercial cleaning sector will continue to keep growing. Recently we announced our acquisitions of two rival cleaning companies south of the border. This has helped enhance our presence in the South of England. Therefore, we aim to continue to grow in the cleaning sector, and we aim to eventually cover every postcode in the UK. We will continue growing by recommendation, and by adapting to the needs and wants of businesses.
