Spotless supports First Aid Awards
Spotless was the proud sponsor of ‘The Community First Aid Champion’ award at this year’s Scottish First Aid Awards.
The annual awards ceremony took place in Glasgow on Friday 24th November. Organised by Scotland’s leading First Aid charity, St Andrew’s First Aid, the awards celebrate everyday heroes who step up to save lives. The awards are now in their sixth year and were created to celebrate extraordinary achievements in first aid and to recognise and remember that every one of us has the ability to save a life.
Spotless has had an association with the organisation since 2012 when we started cleaning its office in Glasgow. We were contracted to clean its offices in Kirkcaldy and Edinburgh the following year and they remain a client today. Spotless CEO, Roger Green, attended the event where he presented the award for ‘Community First Aid Champion’ to paramedic Harry Saddiq from the Scottish Ambulance Service.
Harry’s award is in recognition of the work he has done as a leader of community outreach across West Scotland. Harry and his fellow paramedics teach CPR and basic first aid to local communities as well as promoting the ambulance service and their work. In March, Harry along with his colleagues, attended “All Different But United” at St. Roch High School, an event organised by the Arab Culture Society and Glasgow City Council to help break down barriers between the Refugees that have settled in the area and the local community.
Harry has also worked with Active Life Scotland to organise community events throughout Glasgow to spread basic first aid skills in areas of multiple deprivation. Harry has a great attitude and had reached out to Save a Life for Scotland to get extra support and materials which is how they became aware of his activities.
The Scottish First Aid Awards were created to recognise individuals, volunteers and businesses who are leading the way in first aid in Scotland. Every year those people and organisations who have made the difference between a life lost and a life saved are recognised and by sharing their inspiring stories, St Andrew’s First Aid hopes to make as many people as possible aware of the importance of basic first aid.
Funds raised at this year’s Scottish First Aid Awards will go towards a community education programme run by St Andrew’s First Aid, work in schools and delivering first aid talks and demonstrations.
